summertime

Such a summer!  I spent June traveling and studying design and landscape with students from Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech, and Cal-Berkely on VaTech professor Terry Clements’s annual sojourn to Europe.  I returned from Europe at the end of June with a reinforced respect and admiration for other design disciplines, especially landscape architecture.

Also, I was able to study more than a few fantastic buildings.  I was particularly excited to see some projects I had only read about, especially Zaha Hadid’s Vitra Fire Station, which was really fantastic.  In Munich, I spent quite a bit of time getting to know the Brandhosrt Sammlung, by Sauerbruch Hutton, which has a wonderfully Baroque Modern facade (I think I just invented an adjective there).  As usual, I was blown away by the work of Behnisch Architekten, but I was truly astounded by the numerous projects by Herzog & de Meuron I encountered.  True masters.

Soon I’ll be posting some sketches and photographs.
